4 Ways to get a Triple Double in Basketball

triple-double-basketball

Triple Double is a good way to establish authority within basketball sports.

A player who can achieve this is not only praised by the team members, and coaches but is well-received in the media and can be seen as a dominant entity.

Be sure Triple double is not impossible all you need is some sort of strategy to work around.

To achieve a triple-double you need to get a minimum of 10 points in 3 of 5 main scoring categories which are Goals, Assists, Rebounds, Steal, and Blocks.

Below are 4 ways to accomplish this:

  1. Practice a combo of Goals+Assists+Rebounds
  2. Learn from Combos used by other Pro Players
  3. Apply whats best work for you
  4. Find your weakness

1) Practice a combo of Goals+Assists+Rebounds :

There are different combinations you can start working around like goals assists and rebounds.

This combination is easier and most common in basketball. Many players look to achieve a triple-double within these categories.

Goals or Points:

As it is said it's easier to score a basket and if you consider yourself a decent player I am sure you are capable of scoring a basket toward 10 points or more.

Keep in mind it does not matter if you score 2 pointers or 3 pointers you need to score a minimum of 10 points within this category. To help you achieve quicker and easier goals

Assists:

Assists are something you help the other player within your team to score a basket. It includes passes and throws helping your team members.

After you have scored a 10 points basket you should focus your attention on Assisting. Get at least 10 Assists within the game.

Keep your attention on grabbing the ball and passing to other team players to get your points up in assisting.

Rebounds:

After you achieve 10 goal points and 10 assists now you can get your attention on rebounds. Rebounds are awarded when you retrieve a ball after a failed goal attempt or a bounce from the rim.

Rebounds opportunity arise if you are close to the basket and let your team or the other team do the throw in the basket.

There are 2 types of rebounds :

  • Defensive
  • offensive

You should be ready for both as it can increase the rebound score.

Defensive rebounds are easier to get points from as you only need to retrieve the ball from the opposing team while in offensive rebounds you need to score to get a rebound point.

But on the other hand, if you are short on goals as well as rebounds it's a good strategy to combine Goals+ Offensive Rebounds. You will get 2 points for the basket and 1 point for an offensive rebound.

2) Combos used by Pro Players:

Here we will be looking at different combinations used by players who have already achieved triple-double in the basketball game.

Players who have achieved a triple-double are:

According to NBA following top 5 players have achieved the highest Triple doubles

1.     Oscar Robertson

2.     Russell Westbrook

3.     Magic Johnson

4.     LeBron James

5.     Jason Kidd

Oscar Robertson from 1961 to 1962 scored 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists

Russel Westbrook scored in Washington wizards vs Atlanta Hawks finished the game with 28 goal points 13 rebounds and 21 assists

Magic Johnson in a game of  Los Angeles Lakers vs Phoenix Suns  scored 16 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds a triple-double

LeBron James scored a triple-double against Cleveland Cavaliers scoring around 38 points, 12 assist, and 11 rebounds

Jason Kidd has the highest score of a triple-double from the year 1994 season to 2011 seasons in his last triple-double he scored 13 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists.

Learning Lesson:

By observing Jason Kidd's streak we can learn you will have a better chance of scoring a triple-double while following a balanced strategy

When you have scored 10 or more points it is better to focus on assists and rebounds to increase your chances of scoring a triple-double.

Going only after scoring points can make you win a game with the most points but you will not be able to score a triple-double.

Balanced Strategy:

Each winning player triple-double has the most scored figures in the points category if we balance them out then it will be much easier to achieve a triple-double.

It means when you achieve 10 points in the point category leave it and focus on rebounds and assists rather than only scoring it can increase the chances of a triple-double.

3) Find what best work for you :

You should make a decision about which strategy you need to follow to get a triple-double.

So, far we have discussed combo and a balanced strategy.

By logic, most players follow Points+assists+rebounds but keep in mind you can still achieve a triple-double with steals and blocks.

Steals:

Steals is credited when you legally take the ball out of the opponent's hands toward your teammate's side.

You can achieve a triple-double still following a steal but the opportunity may rise less due to which it might be harder than assists and rebounds.

Blocks:

Blocks are another way to achieve a triple-double you can make blocks but it is still not the easiest to achieve as opportunities are fewer but it may still occur and you can think about it playing against a weaker team.

A successful block attempt happens when you draw the ball or make any type of legal hindrance in diverging an attempt of throwing a ball in the basket.

So, it is possible to achieve but due to a lack of successful attempts and the risk of getting foul many players to avoid getting 10 points score

Choosing a strategy:

Weak teams combo:

Before any game starts, think about which team you are facing and then choose your combo.

If you are facing a weaker team follow a combo of :

Points+Rebounds+Steals

Points+Blocks+Rebounds

Points+Steals+Assists

This combo will seem effective as you can make steals and blocks easier with a weaker or a beginner team.

Strong team combo:

Points+Assists+Rebounds

Points+Rebounds+Blocks

These combos will prove beneficial as playing against a stronger team you can achieve rebounds and blocks but making steals is harder

They can fool you with dribbles and can cause you to make mistakes leading to a foul or disqualification.

You can have your personal combo and change according to the situation or team opponents.

Using a lock analogy:

Just like you try different keys to open a lock you need different combos to achieve triple-double obviously the stronger the lock the harder will be its combination.

So, you should have a better understanding of the opposing team its weakness as well as a teamwork ability to earn a triple-double.

Keep in mind at basketball sport you can't achieve anything on your own it's a team-player game so make a strategy and also discuss it with your teammates helping you to achieve a triple-double.

4) Find your weakness :

It's better to get a little organized in your game plan. Focus on weaknesses and then make a strategy accordingly.

There are 5 main categories

1.     Points

2.     Rebounds

3.     Assists

4.     Steals

5.     Blocks

Now you should know which are your weakness and then divide them into 4 quarter games.

Plan a four-quarter game:

If points are your strength then keep them at 3 and 4th quarters, Assists and Rebounds as your weakness try to achieve 10 points in these early on in the 1st and 2nd quarters following a combo of Points+Assists+Rebounds Strategy.

The main advantage of this is Exhaustion. As you know in the 1st and 2nd quarters opposing teams are strong, they will try to score more, and by focusing on weak links you can achieve 10 points on those categories easily.

In the 3rd and 4th quarters exhaustion starts to creep in So, a focus on your strong points not only helps you score more but can bring your team close to victory and a triple-double achievement.
